Corbett
National Park
Corbett
National park in the north Indian state of Uttaranchal has been
a haunt for tourists and wildlife lovers for a long time.
Corbett National Park was the first to be authorized as a
Project Tiger Reserve in 1973. Situated at a distance of 260 kms
from Delhi and 128 kms from Nainital, the Corbett National Park
is best known for its big cat population, especially the tigers.
Traveling is permitted in selected areas of Corbett Tiger
Reserve and National Park, so that people has the opportunity to
see its beautiful landscape and the diverse wildlife living
here. In recent years the number of people coming here has
increased dramatically. Presently, every season
more than
70,000 visitors come to the park from India and abroad.
Sightseeing at Corbett -
The Flora : Covering over 520 sq km with a core area of
330 sq km, the Corbett National Park boasts of mixed deciduous
and Sal forests and stretches of savannah grasslands, sheltering
numerous carnivores and herbivores.
The Fauna : Corbett is
home
to several animals and birds. There are around 50 tigers in
Corbett, apart from other wildlife like leopards, several lesser
cats, the wild dog, porcupines, jackals, civets, sloth bear,
black bear, wild boar and a few hundred elephants. You will find
antelope, chital, hog deer and samba graze through the
grasslands of Corbett. The Rhesus monkey and common languor are
ubiquitous, while the long-snouted gharial, marsh crocodile,
cobras and pythons can be seen on the mud banks of the Ramganga.
The Ramganga reservoir, in the main Dhikala camp region of the
park, houses over 600 species of birds, which includes the pied
kingfisher, crested serpent eagle, fishing eagle and Himalayan
grey headed fishing eagle. The river is also a favorite catch
for anglers.
Park
Trips : Elephant rides and jeep rides can be arranged once
in Corbett National Park; private vehicles and jeeps are also
allowed. Elephant rides are the recommended way to see the
animals.
Best Season to Visit : 15th November to 15th June
Reaching Corbett -
The town of Ramnagar forms the headquarters of Corbett Tiger
Reserve. It is well connected to important places by road and
rail.
Train : A direct train to Ramnagar runs from New Delhi.
Alternatively, one can come up to Haldwani/Kashipur/Kathgodam
and come to Ramnagar by road.
Road : Ramnagar is connected by road to Delhi, Moradabad,
Bareilly and Naintial. State transport buses ply regularly from
Delhi, Moradabad, Haldwani to Ramnagar.

Skiing
is one sport that has gained immense popularity all over the
world and in the past decade have become quiet attention
grabbing sport because of the Himalayas. Skiing, like any other
high-altitude adventure sports in India, is a contribution of
the Europeans. The challenging height and the stretches of the
snow clad mountains, with the added advantage of powdered snow
are tempting enough to captivate the adventurous spirits of the
avid skier, providing all the thrill and excitement attached to
the game.

Skiing
in Auli, Garhwal :
Snow capped slopes of Auli are flanked by all, dense deodar forest
which cuts wind velocity to the minimum 16-kms from Joshimath on
the Badrinath route, Auli offers a 180 panoramic view of Himalayan
peaks like the Nanda Devi (7,817m) Kamet (7,756m) Mana Parvat
(7,273) and Dunagiri (7,066m) seemingly only a snow ball thrown
away. The slopes at Auli provide excellent opportunities for cross
country and downhill skiing events.
Skiing in Munsiyari, Kumaon :
Munsyari is situated at a distance of 66 kms. from Jauljibi and
127 kms. from Pithoragarh via Thal. Munsyari is the center as well
as the gateway of the Johar region. Munsyari is the base of treks
to Milam, Namik and Ralam glaciers. Khalia Top and Betulidhar are
two high altitude places that offer excellent conditions for
skiing.
